Essay Contest

We have been notified that Sarah Padgett’s essay, our 1st place winner in the student Essay Contest at the 11th grade level, was selected by the State Council to be sent to our Supreme Council to represent our State (and our council) and will be judged with other state winners (11th Grade level) at the National level.  I have contacted Sarah and informed her of her selection and to let her know that the Father Robert T. Lawson Council of the Knights of Columbus, #11103, is very proud of her.  I told her that we congratulate her and wish her the best at the National Level.

I will update you with additional information as it becomes available.

Adopt A Child Help Needed

Brother Knights,

We will need some additional volunteers this year to assist with our Adopt A Child Program.  We are adding additional schools this year and will need Brothers-in-Charge to handle the new schools and additional sponsors .  The requirements to be a Brother-in-Charge is to want to help children less fortunate than yourself and be willing to make between 5 and 10 phone calls to sponsors giving them their student information.  The requirement to be a sponsor is to be willing to “give to the least of my brethren” and be willing to purchase two gifts ($25.00 or less) twice a year (May and December).

If you are interested in one or both of these important positions, please let me know at our next Business Meeting (Thursday, March 1, at 7:30pm) or call me at 910-255-6940.

Program Director Notes

On these pages I’ve highlighted the great job being done by our various Progrm Directors, but I’ve overlooked the important programs put together by our Lecturer – John James. This past week some 75+ Knights, Ladies and parishioners heard of the horrors of both Russian & German concentration camps in WW II from a former prisoner – Mr. Mike Lindner. Kudo’s to Br. James.

Valentines Day Family Dance a Rousing Success

Family Director, John Pantaleo, thought it would be a good idea to have an old fashion 50′s Style Dance for Valentine’s Day. On Feb. 11th. the dance was held and some 40+ couple’s relived the music and dances of their youth. To renew old skills the Fred Astaire Studies provided some vigorous dance lessons and light Hors D’oeuvres (provided by our wonderful ladies) fed the tired dancers. A new rousing activity!!!!

Forty Cans For Lent

All brother Knights are urged to participate in a nation wide food drive during the Lenten Season. To take part in this food campaign, simply drop off can goods in the Church gathering areas at the Mass you attend on Saturday or Sunday during Lent. One can for each day of Lent, begining with Ash Wednesday is the suggested goal. However if this is not feasible following our very successful food drive for San Juan Diego Mission, any contribution will be greatly appreciated. All donations will be taken to San Juan Diego Mission for distribution to those most in need. The need is real. Many people are facing food shortages during this difficult time. We can help carry our Lord’s cross by helping bear one another’s burdens.
Thanks, Walt Scheyett
